BAUANG, La Union- The Department of Tourism Regional Office I (Dot RegionOne), with its thrust to capacitate Local Government Units with the importance of promoting tourism anchored on respecting local people, travellers, cultural heritage, and the environment, condcuts the one-day Orientation on Sustainable Tourism on April 24, 2019 at Hotel Ariana in Bauang, La Union.
Participants were the different City and Municipal LGUs in La Union, Pangasinan, and Ilocos Sur. Regional Director Martin S. Valera started the activity with a talk on the overview on Sustainable Tourism and the importance of tourism planning.
Mr. Pablo Gabriel R. Malvar, Producer/Director of The Extra Mile Productions, carried out the rest of the seminar with discussions on promoting and branding local destinations and tourism assets strategically without sacrificing their value.
Part of the seminar was a series of video presentations created by Mr. Malvar and The Extra Mile Productions, showcasing breathtaking videos of tourism destinations in the country. A workshop was also facilitated which aimed to produce tourism circuits and identify tourism assets, stakeholders, policies, principles, and the best way to promote these.
This activity is the first batch of the three runs which will be implemented by the DOT Regional Office during the second quarter of CY 2019. DOT targets to implement the next batch in Ilocos Sur this June.
