LAOAG CITY, Sept. 26 (PIA) – With the aim to develop tourism workforce in providing quality services to visitors, the Department of Tourism (DOT) introduced the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence in the Ilocos Region on September 10-12 at the Palacio de Laoag, here.

Participated in by at least 30 hotel frontliners and managers of several protected areas of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the workshop was aimed at orienting the participants on the branded guest service in a Filipino way.

One of the objectives was to encourage the use of “Mabuhay” and “Paalam” gestures to show genuine Filipino hospitality to tourists and visitors in their area.

“Itinuturo natin sa kanila ang seven Filipino values. Aside from the values, itinuturo rin natin ang mga fundamentals of excellent guest service,” Anabelle Moreno, DOT accredited trainer, said.

The three-day seminar workshop included talks and practical demonstrations on service excellence, understanding guests, delivering great service excellence, service recovery, and basic front office and housekeeping services.

With the participation of the DENR, visiting guests at the identified protected areas in Region I will be fully accommodated with excellent guest service.

“Mayroon kaming mga visitors, clients na iha-handle. So, ang DENR ay nagpapasalamat sa DOT na nagkaroon ng ganitong seminar para matuto  ang mga staff ng protected areas kung papaano nila iha-handle ‘yong mga guest,” Gleshy Castillo, development management officer of DENR in Region I, said.

In Ilocos Norte, there is one protected area, which is a regular component of the National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS).

“We have the Kalbario-Patapat Natural Park. We also have three initial components, the Tanap Watershed Forest Reserve in Burgos, Metropolitan Ilocos Norte Water Forest Reserve in Pasuquin, and Paoay Lake National Park,” Castillo added.
